Best Disney Sweet Snacks – Cupcakes

Disney Cupcakes

I love a good cupcake. Thankfully, Walt Disney World is a great place to find some of the best gourmet style cupcakes. Each park and resort has at least one place to enjoy a cupcake. I have made it my mission to try all that they have to offer. It’s going to be a lot of fun trying some new flavors. While I have barely put a dent in that long list of cupcakes, I have enjoyed the ones I have sampled so far. Here are some of my favorite places to enjoy a delicious cupcake.

1. The Mara at Animal Kingdom Lodge

The Mara is one of the best counter service restaurants in all of Walt Disney World. In addition to all of the usual amenities, they also boast a full bakery. On our visit we had the opportunity to try the Orange Marmalade Cupcake and the Zebra Cupcake.

2. Comtempo Cafe – Disney’s Contemporary Resort

Like, The Mara, Contempo Cafe is an awesome cupcake destination. I am a big fan of their Pink Lemonade Cupcake. So much so, I don’t even have a picture because I ate it so fast! One of my favorite WDW memories is enjoying this cupcake while watching Wishes from our balcony at Bay Lake Tower. Heaven!

3. Main Street Bakery – Magic Kingdom

One of the treats to survive the Starbucks remodel is the Disney Cupcakes at the Main Street Bakery. Lately they’ve taken on a more gourmet look and guests usually have the choice of 2 different kinds. Last summer, for Limited Time Magic, I got to have a Christmas cupcake to celebrate Christmas in July.

4. Backlot Express – Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Disney’s Hollywood Studios is now the home of Star Wars.  At Backlot Express, conveniently located near Star Tours, you can choose between light side or dark side cupcakes.  The Darth Vader Cupcake is chocolate with peanut butter buttercream.  The BB-8 is a lemon cupcake with vanilla buttercream.  A must for any Star Wars fan!

Originally, we had Starring Rolls Cafe in this spot, but it closed in early 2017.  It was home to the outrageously good Butterfinger cupake.  Thankfully, we know how to make the Butterfinger Cupcakes at home!

5. Be Our Guest – Magic Kingdom

Whether you dine at Be Our Guest for lunch or dinner, you will have an array of cupcakes to choose from. The dessert menus include Triple Chocolate, Strawberry Cheesecake, Lemon Meringue and my favorite, The Master’s Cupcake.

If you are a fan of the Grey Stuff, then you will love The Master’s Cupcake. This delicious cupcake is basically Chocolate Sponge Cake topped with Lumiere’s special “Grey Stuff”. The cake was moist and rich. The Grey Stuff ( a cookies and cream whipped panna cotta) was sweet and creamy and made its way into the center of the cupcake. The cupcake was topped with crunchy edible pearls and a piece of thin dark chocolate.  Yum! Put it all together and you have a very sweet and very satisfying end of meal treat.

Honorable Mentions:

Although I have not had the opportunity to enjoy a cupcake from these places, they are on my to-eat list for my next trip.

  • Boardwalk Bakery – Boardwalk Resort
  • Kusafiri Bakery – Animal Kingdom
  • Karamell Kuche – Epcot (Caramel Popcorn Cupcake? Yes, please!)

Can I confess that the size of most Disney cupcakes scares me off? I do love ALL the cupcakes at Be Our Guest Restaurant- probably because they are smaller. (The strawberry is my favorite; it's not too sweet but decadent just the same. There. I've said it. I'm a cupcake wimp! :D
