The Bosch 800 Series Might Change Our Mind About Dishwashers

Since buying our house about 10 years ago, we’ve been debating getting rid of the dishwasher we inherited. But maybe we just need a better one?

If we decide to upgrade, the Bosch 800 Series dishwasher with CrystalDry technology may just be the way to go. Here’s why we think it would be worth it.

Full disclosure here: I was selected to share information about the Bosch 800 series dishwasher at Best Buy. In return for doing so, we’re receiving a gift card. That being said, the features of the Bosch 800 series dishwasher have me rethinking my initial plan to do away with a dishwasher altogether.

Our Troubled History with the Dishwasher

Almost right after moving into our house, the dishwasher sprung a leak that threatened to ruin our newly purchased kitchen floor. Thankfully, the repair was taken care without costing an arm and a leg.

But since then, we’ve had our issues with our current dishwasher:

  • It doesn’t dependably get our dishes clean.
  • In our small kitchen, it takes up valuable cabinet space.
  • It’s hard to fit large or irregular-shaped things in the racks.
  • It makes a lot of noise when it’s running.

So the pros of removing it altogether would be alleviating the fear that it may leak again, getting back some cabinet space, and not having the noisy background when we’re trying to relax in the adjoining living room.

The cons? Obviously we’d have to wash everything by hand in our small sink, and then hand-dry each item or set out to dry on our counter and island, which would make the kitchen useless until that’s done.

What’s Awesome about the Bosch 800 Series Dishwasher

Why we might consider upgrading to the Bosch 800 Series dishwasher is because it addresses our major issues with its features.

Rackmatic® with adjustable 3rd Rack

The 24″ width would fit our existing space, but the difference maker is the rack system. With 3 different height levels and up to 9 possible rack positions, we can customize each load for our needs. Adding the 3rd rack with its adjustable tines can create the right fit for deep, tall, or uniquely-shaped items.

24/7 Aquastop® Leak Protection

Ever since that first leak, we’ve been worried that another might occur. We are hesitant to run the dishwasher at night or when we’re not home in case that happens.

The Bosch 800 series features a 4-part leak prevention system that uses sensors to detect and stop leaks, and can even turn on by itself. That’s reassuring.

It Runs Quiet

Supposedly, Bosch dishwashers are so quiet, you have to check the exterior Infolight® to know they’re on. If that’s the case, we won’t have to have the TV in the next room turned up so loud just to hear it while we’re running dishes after dinner!

How quiet is it? The 42 dBA rating is on par with the noise level of a library or bird calls.

CrystalDry™

According to Bosch, CrystalDry™ (which is only available in the 800 Series) gives you the ultimate clean and the ultimate dry, even with plastics.

  • The new Bosch 800 Series dishwasher delivers a sparkling clean and dry with advanced PrecisionWash technology and patented CrystalDry technology.
  • Patented CrystalDry technology transforms moisture into heat up to 176F for the ultimate dry, even for plastics.
  • With PrecisionWash, intelligent sensors continually scan and check the progress of dishes throughout the cycle, and powerful spray arms target every item of every load, for the ultimate clean.

The Bosch 800 Series with CrystalDry delivers 60% better drying results. That claim is based on aggregate average drying performance of Bosch Dishwashers with CrystalDry on combined household load including plastics, glass, steel, and porcelain as compared to Bosch Dishwashers with PureDry. Drying performance may vary by dish type.

It certainly sounds like the Bosch 800 Series dishwasher would do a better job than what we currently have, and cut down on the need to hand-wash, re-wash, or hand-dry our dishes.

Will We Upgrade?

We’re not sure yet. If we had the budget to do it right now, we’d probably pull the trigger. But we’re in a holding pattern on big purchases right now.

But there’s a lot to like about the thought of having a Bosch 800 Series in the kitchen. It could very well be one of those purchases that makes a big difference in life around the house.

Again, we were compensated to share this information about the Bosch 800 Series dishwasher. So be sure to check it out and compare it over at BestBuy.com to see what others think. And if you agree or disagree, feel free to let us know by leaving a comment.

Were we on the right track with our thinking to get rid of the dishwasher altogether, or should we upgrade to something that does the job and has all the features we need like the Bosch 800 Series?

How does this dry relative to the Asko? Is this the first Bosch with real drying capabilities?

Hi Jim.

The Crystal Dry is a heated dry cycle, and I think that's new to the Bosch and probably similar based on what I've read about the Asko. Unfortunately, I can't directly compare.
