I love fries! Their crisp outside and soft middle make them my number one go to comfort food. While I have my favorite cuts, I really don’t think I’ve met a fry that I didn’t like. That’s why, after running my first half marathon, the only thing that could get me out of bed was the prospect of trying the new gourmet fries at Golden Oak Outpost in the Magic Kingdom.

These fries are like none I’ve ever had before. But to call them fries would not be accurate. They’re more like nachos, but instead of chips, they use golden waffle fries. Piled on top are some delicious accompaniments that take the regular waffle fry to a whole new level. I love to dip my fries in some nontraditional condiments, so I knew these fries would be right up my alley.
There are 4 concoctions to choose from:
- Brown Gravy and Cheese- Brown gravy and white cheddar
- BLT- Bacon, Lettuce and Tomato with Ranch Dressing
- Barbecue Pork- barbecue pork and cole slaw
- Tex-Mex- black bean cucumber relish, warm cheddar, sliced jalepenos, salsa and sour cream
You could also get plain waffle fries and sweet potato nuggets topped with powdered sugar.
On our visit, we tried the Brown Gravy and Cheese and the BLT waffle fries.
The Brown Gravy and Cheese fries are topped with white cheddar cheese curd then smothered in brown gravy. We are huge fans of disco fries from our local diner, but these blew them out of the water. The gravy was so smooth and flavorful, we found ourselves dipping the kids leftover fries in it. This variety is very similar to the Canadian dish, Poutine.
The BLT fries are loaded with bacon, lettuce and tomato and are drizzled in ranch dressing. The toppings easily fell off so it was necessary to eat them with a fork. The combination of flavors was delicious. The salty crisp bacon paired nicely with the sweet tomato. The lettuce was cool and refreshing cutting through the bite of the ranch dressing. You could also sandwich the toppings between two fries to create your own mini BLT.
Week after, I’m still craving both of these fries. I’m sure we could easily recreate them at home. I wonder what new combinations we can come up with. Stay tuned to find out!
These delicious waffle fries can be found at The Golden Oak Outpost in Frontierland in the Magic Kingdom. Each type is $7.99.
