Fun and portable travel games for family road trips that will silence the “are we there yets” and keep kids off their screens.
Whether you’re taking a two hour road trip to Grandma’s or taking the family on a multi day trip, you’re going to want to stack the car with things to keep the kids entertained. Over the years, we’ve brought along our trusty road trip kit. It included puzzles, bingo games and coloring books to mention a few. But now that the kids are older, and wanting to spend more time on their devices, we need to up our road trip game. The kids have been into games since we started having monthly family game nights. Games are a great way to pass the time in the car and they’re easy to bring along too.

Here are a selection of games to bring on your next family road trip, plus tips for storing and playing them in the car.

To keep the games neat and organized in the car, I picked up a plastic bin and cover. A good 8-10 games can fit nicely inside.

I also found a plastic tray in the “dollar” section at Target. This could be good for card games, rolling dice or a way to hold games. For dice games, you could also use small food storage containers with lids for rolling the dice. Put the dice inside and close the lid. Shake the container on your turn to “roll” the dice.
