LEGO LIVE is coming to New York City

Have you ever wanted to play with millions of LEGO bricks at once? LEGO LIVE is coming to New York City this month and we’re very excited to get the chance to attend.  We’ve partnered with LEGO LIVE to promote the event taking place at Manhattan’s Pier 36 from February 16-18th. In return, they’ve asked us to attend and share our experience. On top of that, they’re letting us give one family pack of 4 tickets to one our our lucky readers!

If you’ve got LEGO fans in your family, here’s a look at the LEGO LIVE event schedule and what to expect if you’re attending. Want to win tickets? Scroll on to the bottom and enter our giveaway!

Our kids love to build and create with LEGO toys, and as parents, we think LEGO bricks are not only fun, but have lots of benefits for their development.  So, not only do we buy them LEGO sets to play with at home, but we also seek out opportunities to have LEGO fun as a family away from home. That’s included visiting LEGO stores, LEGOLAND Discover Center, LEGOLAND theme park, and attending a fan event like Brick Fest.

Next on our list is LEGO Live, which is coming to New York City for the very first time. They are saying it’s the “ultimate LEGO event”, plus it’s officially run by LEGO, and we are eager to see if it lives up to the hype.

LEGO LIVE

This event is the first of its kind, so until we get there, we can only tell you what they tell us about it:

There will be MILLIONS of LEGO® bricks for your kids to design, create, and play. Kids can build with their favorite brands including: LEGO® Star Wars,TM LEGO® Ninjago, LEGO® Mindstorms,TM LEGO® City, LEGO® Minecraft, LEGO® DUPLOs,® LEGO® Friends, and LEGO® Architecture to name a few. Plus, there will be a Master LEGO® Builder on hand to give  your kids once-in-a-lifetime building tips and tricks.

That sounds like fun. But we’re still curious about how it all works. It seems that it will be very open with different areas that are centered around each brand. The only timed or scheduled events will be the demonstrations from Master Builders and YouTubers which I imagine will take place on a main stage area.

I’ve heard the architecture area will include a New York City skyline that guests can contribute to. The Star Wars area will be about building your own spaceship. The Minecraft area will have physical bricks as well as consoles for playing. The Ninjago area is described as “immersive” with opporunities to test your Ninjago skills.  Does that mean they’ll have wall climbing and reflex games like they do at LEGOLAND theme park?

What I’m most excited about is the opportunity to play with LEGO Boost toys. This is something I got to see on display at a few conventions, but it wasn’t really a hands-on experience. I’m hoping for this to be different. I fully expect Bella and Jackson to end up spending the most time in the LEGO Minecraft area, though.

LEGO Game Night

The one session that is different from the rest is the 2-hour LEGO Game Night on Saturday. This is what they say about that:

For the first time ever at a LEGO® event, LEGO® LIVE NYC will feature international YouTube stars on stage and at Saturday night’s Game Night. Fans will have a chance to compete against a LEGO® Master Builder, YouTube celebs, MinecraftTM masters, and other LEGO® fans. Game Night will be fun for the whole family and LEGO® fans ages 8 and up.

YouTubers scheduled to appear include Rebrickulous, BOOST team from The TTV Channel, Ali-A, Clare Siobhan, and Vikkstar (Day sessions only).

LEGO LIVE Schedule

There are 5 4-hour sessions over 3 days, plus a LEGO game night on Saturday evening.

  • Friday, February 16th: 4pm-8pm
  • Saturday, February 17th: 9am-1pm, and 3pm-7pm
  • Saturday, February 17th: 8pm-10pm (LEGO LIVE Game Night)
  • Sunday, February 18th: 9am-1pm, and 3pm-7pm

*VIK/VIG ticketholders get 1 extra hour of access before their session. Can enter 3p on Friday, 8am and 2pm on Saturday and Sunday sessions.

LEGO LIVE Tickets

General Admission Tickets for each session are $30 + an $8.55 ticket fee for anyone over the age of 3.

VIK (Very Important Kid) Tickets are $75 + $14.20 ticket fee. VIK includes:

  • LEGO cinch bag
  • LEGO LIVE t-shirt
  • Exclusive make & take
  • Lanyard & credential
  • 1 hour early admission w/ separate entrance
  • VIK lounge on show floor w/ water & snacks
  • Master builder meet & greet

VIG (Very Important Guest) Tickets are $45 + $10.43 ticket fee. VIG tickets include:

  • Lanyard & credential
  • 1 hour early admission w/ separate entrance
  • VIK lounge on show floor w/ water & snacks
  • Master builder meet & greet

LEGO Game Night Tickets (ages 8+) are $50 + $11.06 ticket fee.

Tickets to LEGO LIVE are sold online via Front Gate Tickets. Now, this certainly isn’t cheap. Especially given the limited amount of time of each session. That 4 hours is going to go by quick. General admission for a family of 4 is going to run you $154 once you factor in taxes and ticket fees. (Giveaway below is looking pretty good, right?) Splurging for the extra hour + goodies will set you back even more. For what it’s worth, the VIK and VIG tickets are listed as being for “all ages”. So the $30 difference between the two hinges on if you want the cinch bag, t-shirt, and whatever the “make & take” is. If you really want the extra hour, you could always do VIG for the kids and save the extra money if you see something you like in the store, which will have some exclusive items.

LEGO Star Wars is our favorite brand to play with as a family. It's just one way we can spend time together and incorporate two of our favorite things :)
