Family Connection: We Love Spider-Man
Of all the Marvel superheroes, none is more popular than Spider-Man. There is just something about Spidey that resonates across generations and cultures. Personally, I think it’s because he is a kid. That vulnerability and being unsure of yourself that comes with being a teenager is something we can all relate to. And in the presence of other superheroes, we see that Spider-Man is as big a fan of them as we are.
That makes the Spider-Man movie franchise a great choice for family movie nights. And the latest installment is the best yet.
Spider-Man: Far From Home Synopsis
In Spider-Man: Far From Home, we find Peter Parker dealing with life after the events of Avengers: Endgame and the death of his mentor. He seems to be happy to be back in his role as a friendly-neighborhood Spider-Man, but reluctant to take on more responsibility as a superhero protecting the whole world.
So, when his class goes on a school trip to Europe, Peter views it as his chance to take a break from being Spider-Man and just be a normal kid. But he finds out that no matter where he goes, he is still Spider-Man, and there will always be more people in need of a superhero.
Spider-Man: Far From Home DVD/Blu-Ray Review
Fans of the MCU will definitely want to add Spider-Man: Far From Home to their collection. And for those who are just fans of Spider-Man, rest assured that we’ll be getting another MCU Spider-Man film to continue the storyline from Homecoming and Far From Home.
The Blu-Ray looked incredible on our tv at home, and as you would expect, the disc comes packed with special features. My favorites included the short film “Peter’s To-Do List”, “Suit Up”: the special look at the different Spide-Man suits worn in the movie, and the outtakes/gag reel.
MCU fans will also appreciate the connection made back to the original Iron Man and the start of the MCU, as well as other Easter Eggs that can be found.
And if you didn’t already have reason enough to love Tom Holland, check out the great work he and his brothers are doing with “The Brothers Trust”.
Spider-Man: Far From Home Movie Night
To celebrate the release of Spider-Man: Far From Home, we whipped up an easy family movie night. It didn’t take much. Just a few movie snacks and a creatively themed pizza, and we had a feast fit for a superhero.
Our menu consisted of:
- Spiderweb pizza
- Spider-Man doughnuts
- Spider-Man Popcorn mix
Bake a store-bought frozen pizza. Dye pizza sauce with a little black food coloring. Put the mixture in a food storage bag and cut off the tip. Once the pizza is done, pipe a spider web onto the pizza using the pizza sauce mixture. Use black olives to make spiders.
Use an apple corer to make a hole in the center of biscuit dough. Deep fry until golden brown. Once cool, dip in a confectioners sugar frosting dyed red. Allow the frosting to set. The last step is to make the webs. Use blue icing to make a spider web on top.
Spider-Man Popcorn Mix
Pop 1/2 cup of unpopped kernels in either the microwave or an air popper. Lay the popped popcorn out on a baking sheet. Melt red candy melts. Drizzle over the popcorn. Sprinkle with black sugar crystals and red and blue milk chocolate candies.
