Crazy for Disney Cupcakes!

It seems that everyone today has gone cupcake crazy. Everywhere you look, a new cupcake shop has just opened its doors. Scour the Internet, or in my case Pinterest, and you see a myriad of gourmet cupcake recipes.

Even
Walt Disney World has jumped on this cupcake bandwagon…

At many of the
WDW restaurants you will find specialty cupcakes in a variety of flavors. In
fact, the dessert menu at Be Our Guest in the Magic Kingdom, boasts 3 different
kinds of cupcakes. Counter service restaurants also offer unique cupcake
flavors.  Starring Rolls at Hollywood Studios offers a Darth Vader cupcake and are
well known for their Red Velvet Cheesecake cupcake. Contempo Café at
the Contemporary Resort is also an awesome cupcake destination. With flavors
like the Spiced Apple cupcake and the Pink Lemonade cupcake, how could you
resist?

Before
our last trip, I came across The Disney Food Blog’s 2012 Cupcake Crawl (there
is also a 2011 version). The crawl asks guests to visit 6 locations and sample
7 different types of cupcakes. It’s a big challenge, but definitely worth
a try. Check it out. Unfortunately, I only was able to try 2. Maybe
this year I will be more successful.

At Home
Twist:

So for
our at home twist this week, we decided to try to replicate the
Butterfinger Cupcake from Starring Rolls at Hollywood Studios. We were able to
track down the recipe from The Disney Diner’s blog (great blog,
definitely worth checking out)

Last night, I baked a batch of chocolate cupcakes using a devil’s food cake mix.  The recipe we found was for Jumbo cupcakes, but we went with the smaller size. Controlling portion size now might be the only self-control we’ll exhibit.

Today, I cut out a hole in each cupcake, and filled it with chocolate fudge frosting.

I placed the plug from each cupcake back on top and upside-down.

I crushed a bag’s worth of mini Butterfinger bars and put it to the side.

Next, I made the butter cream frosting for the cupcakes.

I ran out of frosting before I finished.  This was probably because I made more smaller cupcakes instead of a few Jumbo sized cupcakes.  I had enough ingredients to make another half-recipe of frosting to finish them off.
I Melted some chocolate chips and poured it over the top, and then dusted with the crushed Butterfingers.
So, what do you think of our replication of the Butterfinger cupcake??  I think it looks close to the real thing.  The only way to find out how the taste compares will be to head down there and try it ourselves!! You certainly won’t have to twist our arms to do that!
Tell us, what WDW cupcakes are on your list?
