Anyone who has taken a road trip knows that snacks are a must. Especially if you are traveling with kids. I don’t know what it is about the car and the open road that turns my kids into snack animals. If they had their way, snacking is all they would do the entire trip. But mommy isn’t having that. For our upcoming road trip, I made these cute Road Trip Snack Kits.
Road Trip Snack Kits
The Road Trip Snack Kits are designed to give each kid a selection of snacks that are just for them. Sometimes you have to separate things to keep the peace. These kits are also all about portion control. In the past we would have large bags of snacks. Not only would things go bad faster, but it would lead to fights. Of course they both would want the same snack at the same time. To combat that, I used a variety of their favorite snacks in individual sizes for their kits.
First, I used a Sistema Lunch Cube to create each kit. These are great! They have a ton of compartments to hold snacks of all different sizes. The sandwich section is perfect for keeping different types of snacks separate. They’re also dishwasher safe which will make it so easy to clean them up after our trip.
Then, I loaded the cubes with snacks. Non perishable snacks are a must for a road trip. I don’t want to have to deal with food going bad and the kids getting sick. I wanted to do a combination of sweet and savory snacks and fruit.
Good choices for snacks include:
- crackers
- cookies
- Goldfish
- granola bars
- applesauce pouches
- fruit snacks
- raisins
- nuts
Good choices for fruit include:
- clementine oranges
- Macintosh apples
- grapes
I also included a snack mix in the small container that came with the cube.
Finally, for an added personal touch, I placed a Mabel’s Labels (mabelslabels.com) label on each snack kit. If you don’t have a set of these for your kids, you really need to get some. They’re so durable and last a long time (even through numerous runs through the dishwasher).
The kids are super excited to use these on our road trip. We’ll let you know how it goes!
